Vol_5_Issue_1_Article_6

This paper outlines some key perspectives from Rape Crisis Network of Ireland regarding sexual violence against people with disabilities. Framed by a contextual overview of the organisation’s ethos, the important issues of data collection and barriers to disclosure are critically explored. The authors discuss the factors which impact upon the experiences of rape crisis survivors with intellectual disabilities in the criminal justice system before considering the effects of the identified systemic failings. In the closing section, criminal law and procedure in relation to sexual offences committed against people with a disability are considered.
